Welcome to the New Student Q&A page! Much of this information can be found elsewhere on our website and on our socials, but this is an easy at-a-glance way to quickly answer some of the initial questions you might have about CCF and how to connect here. To get a feel for what a lot of we talk about on this website looks like in action, check out the video on the right. If you have any questions that aren’t answered here, please contact a staff person.

services on campus

Q: Where and when does CCF meet for worship?

A: CCF worship services happen Sundays at 10:30am and Wednesdays at 7:00pm in Violette Hall 1000.

Q: How long do services last and what happens there?

A: Services typically last around an hour and fifteen minutes, and the main elements are songs and teaching from the scriptures, as well as communion on Sundays. Services are also a convenient place to catch up with CCF folks you haven't otherwise seen throughout the week, and to hear about what's going on and coming up at CCF.

Q: Is CCF a part of a specific denomination?

A: Yes and no. While was CCF was founded by churches from something called the Restoration Movement (which we'd be glad to tell you more about sometime), we function non- or even inter-denominationally, meaning that Christians from various traditions come to our services on campus, and so there are likely aspects of worship that you may find both familiar and unfamiliar here, depending on where you're coming from.

SMALL GROUPS

Q: What's a small group?

A: A weekly get-together with other students. A pocket of CCF community created around a book reading, a Bible study, or some other kind of community-building focus. We've had groups in the past focused on things from difficult questions for the faith to developing vulnerability to movies to poetry to reading Psalms together. There's always a variety! Whatever the topic, we think they're super important for those seeking deeper relationships with other CCF students or looking to regularly share and discuss particular aspects of our faith. Join one!

Q: Okay, but how do I join?

A: Go here! For more info on what the small groups will be, come to You Are Here, our weeklong series of events designed to welcome and introduce new students on campus to the community of CCF. We'll also be talking about small groups and offering sign-up opportunities throughout YAH!

Q: Can I join more than one small group?

A: Yes. That is allowed, but given how busy life at Truman can get, we encourage you to consider joining and fully committing to just one group and seeing where that takes you.

events

Q: What other things does CCF have going on once the semester gets going?

A: All kinds of things! Social funtime events like a Fall Party, game nights, pickup sports, poetry nights, movie nights, and more! We also have even bigger events, like weekend-long Men's and Women's Retreats in the Fall and a weeklong Spring Break service trip in the Spring.

Q: What about other events for spiritual sorts of things?

A: We pray every morning M-F at the CCF house from 9-9:30, and anyone is welcome to join us. We also have occasional worship nights throughout the semester, and we invite students to participate in a CCF-wide media fast for a week each semester.

Q: What about service in the community?

A: Yes! We have occasional opportunities to serve the Truman and Kirksville communities in various ways, and we have a student leader specifically devoted to organizing those cooperative efforts.

Q: How do I find out about when and where all this stuff is happening?

A: We make regular announcements at our large worship services, as well as keeping everyone updated through our social media accounts.

Discipleship and Relationships

Q: What does CCF mean by discipleship?

A: Excellent question that has a potentially long answer. In short, it is our collective effort as a community to come alongside and encourage one another to cultivate lives of faithfulness. Relationships are key at CCF. Loving God and following Jesus are hard enough alone; we see community as an essential part of this process for every individual.

Q: How do you do discipleship at CCF?

A: At CCF, this community-oriented pursuit can look any of a lot of different ways: praying together weekday mornings, worshiping together at services, serving together in the community, hearing the scriptures read and taught and wrestling with them together, rejoicing and grieving with roommates, talking honestly and vulnerably in what we call 'accountability groups,' playing games, discussing movies, sharing poetry, even collectively stepping back from media during a weeklong fast each semester. All done with the aim to foster lives found in Christ that abundantly love both God and others.

Q: So if I were to want to explore any of that, where would I start?

A: The best place to start at this point is to contact a staff person, using the email on the staff page.

Q: What if I just want to meet someone and chat?

A: We'd love that. Contact a staff person. We'd love to grab coffee with you or introduce you to some of our upperclassmen students.
